I wanted something that was going to last me a long time, but wasn’t too “tactical” in nature. I decided on the Belstaff 556 Colonial Messenger. Belstaff, originally a British company is now Italian owned. The 556 is made out of cotton canvas and has leather straps. It can go with just about anything and is roomy enough to carry everything from my Macbook Air, to a couple of notebooks and small jacket. I was first introduced to this little radio through NPR. It’s great for talk radio as well of course. It’s not too heavy on the bass, but it creates a clear sound that can fill a room. It comes in a variety of different wood types and colors. Personally I’m not one for something too fancy. I just need it to tell the time, and maybe the date. I’ve had this Citizen watch ever since I was a kid. One brand that I have always gone to has been Schwan-Stabilo of Germany. It’s been around since the mid 1800’s and is the world’s largest high-liter pens manufacturer. There are two particular pens that I have always used, and that is their point 88 fine point pen and the pointVisco fine point. I’ve grown to love the point 88 since college. It writes smoothly, doesn’t run, and in makes my chicken scratch even look legible. At less than a dollar each, why not give them a try? The pointVisco is a bit of a spinoff on the point 88. It is gel based rather than water, and while writing quick notes, it is not one to smudge.
